Steps to take after identifying ceiling water damage

1/19/2023 (Permalink)

Blog Summary: The steps to take after identifying ceiling water damage are shared in this article by SERVPRO® of Central & West Plano.

A ceiling is the overhead interior surface covering the rooms' upper limit. Its main purpose is to conceal the underside of the roof or the floor above. Ceilings help make an indoor space look more beautiful and neat. Also, pipes and ducts can run through the space above the ceiling and remain concealed. This space can also be used to install insulation and fireproofing material.

All homeowners are keen to prevent water damage in their homes. There is a possibility of leaking behind a ceiling that causes water damage to the ceiling, which requires the leak to be stopped and may necessitate ceiling repair. Water damage to ceilings can be dangerous if it affects the electrical wiring installed near the ceiling. It also impairs the efficiency of the insulation and causes energy loss. Preventing ceiling water damage is important. Water damage restoration must be initiated as soon as possible if ceiling water damage is noticed.

SERVPRO of Central & West Plano has over 25 years of experience in the restoration industry. The company provides water damage restoration in Hebron, TX, and neighboring areas that adhere to the highest industry standards. In this article, SERVPRO of Central & West Plano shares some useful information on ceiling water damage.

Common causes of water damage to ceilings

Severe weather

Roofs and ceilings can sustain damage during storms, heavy rain, hurricanes, snowfall, etc.

Clogged gutters

When gutters get blocked by debris, water can seep through the walls or roof, causing damage to the ceiling.

AC unit problems

If the AC malfunctions, it can cause condensation that affects the ceiling. There can be leaking into the ceiling if the AC has a blocked drainpipe or full drain pan.

Leaking pipes

Pipes may leak and affect the ceiling that is close to them.

Faulty sprinkler systems

Sprinklers are important in a fire accident, but if they are faulty, they can lead to water damage to the ceiling.

Signs of ceiling water damage

Stains

Discoloration or stains is a sign of water damage to ceilings that is easy to identify.

Mold

Moldy patches may be seen on ceilings that have been exposed to moisture.

Sagging ceilings

Ceilings that appear dipping or bowed indicate that they have been exposed to water from leaking pipes or appliances. If the ceiling on the top floor of a building is sagging, it may be due to roof damage.

Bubbling or peeling paint on the ceiling

Bubbling or peeling paint indicates that water or moisture is accumulated above the ceiling drywall and may leak soon.

Soggy drywall

If ceiling drywall is soft to the touch or moist or mushy, the drywall is water damaged and needs replacement.

Leaking ceilings

Visible leaks or water flowing down the walls or water pooling on the floor may be due to leaks from the ceiling.

What to do if there is ceiling water damage?

If any signs of ceiling water damage are seen, quick action is needed. If the ceiling is exposed to water for long, it affects the structural integrity and is also at a high risk of developing mold growth.

Identifying the source of water is important. Fixing this problem is the first step before the damage is repaired. Sometimes this is easy, like if there is roof damage due to a storm causing water damage. Otherwise, a plumber or a professional water damage restoration technician should be able to identify the cause of water damage.

To control the damage, if a ceiling leaks, the leaking water can be contained in containers lined with old towels placed to catch the water. Furniture or objects exposed to water can be moved or covered with tarps or plastic sheets to protect them. Any water on the floor may be mopped up to prevent damage to the flooring and protect it from mold growth.

Ceiling water damage can impact the structural integrity of a building if it seeps into walls or the floor. Drywall can also develop mold quickly. Professional water damage restoration is quick and thorough. SERVPRO of Central & West Plano has a team of highly trained restoration technicians who have access to the latest restoration and cleaning equipment. For any kind of water damage restoration in Hebron, TX, residents can rely on this company. Contact SERVPRO of Central & West Plano on the number (945) 348-5804 for an immediate response to water damage emergencies.

How do home inspectors check for water damage?

Water damage can be expensive and dangerous. As a homeowner, it’s important to take steps to prevent it and detect it early. A home inspector is trained to look for potential water damage and inspect for any existing water damage during their evaluation of the property. But how do home inspectors check for water damage? Let’s break it down.

Inspecting the Exterior of the Property

The first step in checking for water damage is to inspect the exterior of the property. To do this, home inspectors will look for signs of standing water, especially near foundations or slabs. They will also check gutters, downspouts, and other drainage systems to ensure that they are not clogged or in need of repair. This inspection includes looking at the grade around the foundation (the slope) to make sure rainwater is directed away from the house – rather than toward it.

Inspecting Inside the Home

Once inside, a home inspector will use a variety of tools to check for water damage – such as infrared cameras and moisture meters.

Infrared cameras measure differences in temperature, which can help identify areas where moisture is present behind walls or under floors. Moisture meters measure electrical resistance in surfaces like drywall. If there is excessive moisture present, then this tool will indicate that there may be an issue with water intrusion somewhere in the house (even if outwardly there are no visible signs of damage yet).

Finally, home inspectors will visually inspect all rooms and crawl spaces for any signs of current or past flooding; these include stains on walls/floors/ceilings, warped wood, moldy smells, etc.

Home Inspectors Check Appliances & Plumbing Fixtures

Furthermore, home inspectors will also investigate plumbing fixtures (such as sinks, toilets), HVAC systems (for potential condensation issues), and appliances (especially washing machines) that could potentially lead to issues with flooding or other water-related problems in your home. These inspections are critical because even small leaks – if left unchecked – can cause major damage over time!

Water damage can be costly but catching it early on can save you time and money down the road! That’s why it’s important to have your property inspected by a certified professional who knows how to look for signs of potential water damage both inside and outside your home. With their expertise in using special tools (like infrared cameras and moisture meters) along with their knowledge about plumbing fixtures, HVAC systems, and appliances, home inspectors can be an invaluable resource.

What causes water damage in homes?

Water damage can be one of the most destructive and costly types of damage to a home. It can cause structural damage, rot, and even mold growth that can lead to long term health problems. Knowing the most common causes of water damage is essential for protecting your home from potential disasters. Let’s break down what causes water damage in homes and why.

Leaky Pipes and Fixtures

One of the most common causes of water damage in homes is leaking pipes and fixtures. Even small leaks can cause significant amounts of water to accumulate, which can lead to major repairs over time. Regularly inspecting pipes and fixtures for signs of wear and tear such as corrosion or cracking is essential for preventing water-related issues. If you suspect a leak, it’s important to contact a professional plumber right away before the problem becomes worse.

Poor Drainage

Another common cause of water damage in homes is poor drainage around the house or on the property itself. Improperly graded land or clogged gutters can cause rainwater to pool around the foundation, resulting in moisture seeping through into the basement or crawl space. This excess moisture can then lead to serious issues like mold growth, which can be difficult and expensive to fix once it takes hold. Ensuring that your gutters are clear and properly installed, as well as grading your land correctly, are key steps you should take to prevent any potential drainage problems down the road.

Storm Damage

Finally, another major cause of water damage in homes is storm-related flooding or wind damage that allows rainwater into areas where it shouldn’t be present. Protecting your home from storms by installing window protections and waterproofing materials around your foundation can help keep out any unwanted moisture that could potentially result in costly repairs or worse—long term health hazards due to mold growth.

Water damage can have serious consequences for any homeowner if not taken care of properly and promptly. Knowing what causes water damage in homes is key for preventing any potential disasters that could otherwise occur if left unchecked. Leaky pipes, poor drainage around your property, or storm-related damages can all lead to extensive amounts of water accumulating inside your home—so make sure you’re prepared by taking proactive steps now!  With regular inspections and maintenance on both interior plumbing fixtures, as well as exterior landscape features (like gutters and downspouts), you should be able to avoid costly repairs due to water-related damages down the road!

Who to call for water damage in the wall

1/5/2023 (Permalink)

Water damage behind the wall of a hair salon. Water damage behind the wall of a hair salon.

Unfortunately, water damage can occur quickly and become worse over time if not addressed properly. That being said, if you’ve noticed water spots or an increased amount of dampness in your walls, it might be time to call a water restoration company.

Let’s take a look at the signs of water damage and who to call for water damage in walls.

What Causes Water Damage in Walls?

The most common causes of wall water damage are plumbing leaks and flooding due to heavy rains or storms.

Plumbing issues such as leaking pipes, broken fittings, or cracked hoses can cause significant amounts of water damage if they are not caught quickly. Heavier rains or storms can also lead to flooding, which can result in even more severe water damage if not addressed promptly.

In any case, wall water damage needs to be addressed quickly in order to minimize the amount of destruction it causes.

Signs of Water Damage in Your Walls

One of the most obvious signs that you have water damage in your walls is discoloration. If you notice any dark spots on the walls or ceilings, this could indicate moisture buildup caused by a leaky pipe or roof. If left untreated, this can lead to mold growth, as well as structural weakening of the building.

Additionally, if you have wallpaper and it begins to bubble or peel away from the wall, this could also be a sign of water damage.

Other common signs include warping along baseboards and doorways, peeling paint or wallpaper, and musty odors in certain rooms. These are all indications that there may be an underlying issue with moisture buildup in your walls that needs to be addressed before it gets any worse.

Who to Call For Water Damage in Walls

Calling a professional water restoration company is always the best option when dealing with potential water damage in your home or office building. They will be able to assess the extent of the damage and provide solutions that are tailored to your specific situation.

Additionally, they will have access to specialized equipment. This equipment can include infrared cameras, which can detect even subtle signs of moisture (such as hidden leaks behind walls or under floors that might not be visible to the naked eye).

Finally, they will also know exactly how to remove excess moisture from the affected area without causing any further damage or disruption to your property. They will know exactly which tools to use in order to quickly and effectively remove water from the area and fix the source of the leak.

Water damage inside walls is not something that should be taken lightly. If left unaddressed for too long, it can lead to significant problems down the line such as mold growth or structural instability. If you suspect there might be water damage in your walls, call a professional water restoration company as soon as possible so they can assess the situation and take appropriate action before any more serious issues arise. By doing so, you’ll ensure that your property remains safe and sound for many years to come!

How do you fix water damaged walls?

1/5/2023 (Permalink)

Residential water damage to the walls Residential water damage to the walls

Water damage can be a nuisance for any homeowner. One of the most common areas that water damage can occur in is on walls. While it is possible to find solutions online, the best way to fix water damaged walls is by having a professional inspect the source of the leak, repair the leak, and then make the necessary repairs. But how do you fix water damaged walls and how do you identify water damage in the first place? Let’s break it down.

Identifying water damage on your walls

Before you can begin repairing water damaged walls, it’s important to first identify the cause of the problem. If you have a leaking pipe or a broken seal in your windows, these need to be repaired before any wall repairs can occur. If you skip this step, the moisture will continue to seep into your walls and could cause further damage in the future.

This step may require the help of a professional water restoration company. This is because water damage can affect many areas that are not noticeable to the naked eye. Without the right equipment, you may never identify the full scope of the water damage.

Once you've identified the source of the issue and taken care of it, you can move onto the next step - identifying what kind of damage has occurred.

The most common type of water damage is staining, which is caused by mold or mildew growing on damp surfaces. Staining is usually visible as dark spots or streaks on your walls that may appear blotchy or uneven. If staining is too severe, then it might be necessary to replace entire sections of drywall or paint over them with waterproof paint to prevent further problems from occurring down the line.

In addition, wood studs behind drywall may also need to be replaced if they have been warped by moisture exposure. If they are not replaced, it could lead to mold complications, as well as complications with the integrity of your home or business.

How do you fix water damaged walls?

Step One: Identify the Cause of the Damage

As mentioned, the first step in repairing your water-damaged walls is determining what caused the damage in the first place. This is important because it allows you to identify potential solutions for preventing further damage. Common causes of water damaged walls include plumbing issues, roof leaks, and poor air circulation. It is important to address these underlying problems before attempting any repair work on the walls themselves.

Step Two: Dry Out The Affected Area

Once you have identified the source of the damage, it’s time to start drying out the area. This is essential as it prevents mold and other forms of rot from taking hold and exacerbating an already difficult situation. If possible, open windows near the affected wall in order to encourage air circulation and speed up the drying process. If needed, you can also use a dehumidifier or industrial fans to further reduce moisture levels in your home. Water restoration companies have access to this equipment, and it may be necessary to contact them for assistance during this step.

Step Three: Repair The Damaged Wall

Once your wall has dried out completely, it’s time to start repairing any areas that have been damaged by water or mold growth. Depending on how extensive your damage is, this may involve replacing drywall panels entirely or simply patching up smaller holes and cracks. For more serious cases of water-damaged walls, you may need professional help in order to ensure that all necessary repairs are made correctly and safely.

Fixing water damaged walls requires quick action and careful planning if you want to avoid more costly repairs down the line. By identifying what caused your water-damaged walls, drying out the affected area thoroughly, and then making necessary repairs, you can ensure that your home stays safe from any further harm due to water damage.

Your guide to water damage in Plano, TX

1/2/2023 (Permalink)

water damage in a home Flooding caused water damage to the walls and floors.

Water damage can be overwhelming. Whether it’s caused by a flood, faulty plumbing, or burst pipes, the process of cleanup and restoration can seem daunting. However, knowing what steps to take after water damage in Plano, TX occurs can help make the process less stressful. Let’s break down the basics of water damage cleanup and restoration in Plano, TX and provide you with some expert tips along the way.

Step 1: Assess the Damage

The first step in cleaning up water damage is to assess the extent of the damage. If you have any doubt about your ability to safely handle this task, contact a licensed contractor or professional cleaner immediately. Be sure to check for hidden signs of moisture—behind walls, under flooring, and in other unseen places—as these areas are prone to mold growth if not properly dried out. Additionally, inspect your basement or crawlspace for signs of moisture or flooding. It’s important to note that even minor amounts of standing water can cause significant long-term damage if not addressed quickly.

Step 2: Call a Water Restoration Company in Plano, TX

After assessing the extent of the damage and determining which areas need attention, it’s time to determine if you should contact a water damage and restoration company. These companies offer services that are designed to address all types of water emergencies, from flooded basements to sewage backups. They have specialized equipment (such as pumps and vacuums) that they can use to extract standing water from your home or business property quickly and efficiently. This is an important step since standing water could lead to mold growth or other hazardous conditions if left unresolved for long periods of time.

Step 3: Remove Contents From Affected Areas

Next up, it’s important that you remove any contents from affected areas immediately. This way, you can make sure they don't sustain more damage than necessary during the restoration process. This includes furniture, clothing, books, electronics, carpets and rugs, etc. Standing water can also negatively impact (and possibly destroy) your contents. So make sure you remove all furniture, clothing, and other items away from the affected area as soon as possible.

Step 4: Remove Excess Water

Once you’ve assessed the amount of water present and determined that it is safe to do so, begin removing excess water from your home using equipment such as a wet/dry vacuum cleaner or mops and buckets. You may also need to use a sump pump in order to effectively remove all excess water from your home. When dealing with large amounts of standing water, it’s best practice to hire a professional water restoration company in Plano, TX. These companies will have access to the tools and equipment that’s necessary for proper removal and mitigation efforts.

Step 5: Restore Damaged Areas

After removing water from affected areas, it’s time to restore any damaged materials (such as carpets, furniture, drywall, and flooring). This must be done as soon as possible in order to prevent further damage due to mold growth or structural instability that can be caused by prolonged exposure to moisture.

Depending on the severity of the situation, it may be necessary to replace certain materials entirely in order to ensure safety and restore functionality. However, if you work with a professional restoration company, they typically offer content restoration services (which can help restore your items to their original condition).

Additionally, be sure that all structural repairs meet local building code requirements, as well as insurance policy requirements. This is especially important if you want any expenses to be covered by your insurance provider.

Water damage is no small matter; however, with quick action and informed decisions you can mitigate its effects on your home or business. The quicker you act, the more likely it is that you can restore affected areas back to their pre-damage state (and before long-term issues arise due corrosion or mold growth). In most cases, a licensed contractor that’s experienced with water damage cleanup is the best call you can make. They can guide you through every step needed for proper mitigation efforts – while keeping you in the loop with code and insurance requirements.

Here’s what you should know about water removal in Plano, Texas

Water damage in the laundry room Water damage severely impacts laundry room.

When you live in a city like Plano, Texas, flooding in your home can be inevitable. Common issues in North Texas (such as frozen pipes bursting) can easily cause a flooding emergency in your home. Because of this, it’s important that you act fast and understand how to start the process of water removal and restoration. To steer you in the right direction, we’ve laid out the necessary actions for water removal in Plano, Texas.

Do You Need a Water Removal Specialist in Plano, Texas?

After a flooding situation, the first thing you should do is call a professional who specializes in water removal services and restoration. A good contractor can assess the damage caused by flooding and provide an estimate and plan-of-action for repairs. They can also advise you on what steps need to be taken immediately in order to prevent further damage. This could include turning off power sources, removing furniture from affected rooms, and setting up dehumidifiers or fans to speed up the drying process.

As an added benefit, these professionals are usually well-versed in building code regulations and requirements set forth by insurance providers. They can help you navigate these murky waters.

What is The Water Removal Process?

Once the initial assessment has been made, the water removal process can begin. In most cases, a professional contractor will use specialized equipment such as pumps or vacuums.

Keep in mind, if standing water is left too long, it can cause serious damage (which can expand to include mold growth, rotting wood, and weakened structural foundations).

Depending on how much standing water there is inside your home, this process can take anywhere from several hours to several days. Once all visible signs of water have been removed from your property, a professional can use special infrared cameras or moisture meters to determine if there are any hidden pockets of moisture that can lead to further damage.

What is The Water Restoration Process?

After all standing water and visible signs of moisture have been removed from your home, it’s time for the restoration process to begin. This process can include replacing drywall or flooring, as well as deep cleaning carpets or furniture that may have been affected by the standing water. This may also involve repairing any electrical systems or plumbing fixtures that may have been damaged.

Once again, this is why it’s incredibly important to work with a water damage and restoration specialist. They’ll do everything they can to make sure as many items as possible are fully restored and your home is safeguarded from future issues (like mold).

Important Water Removal Tips

  • Stay Safe: Be sure to turn off the power before attempting any work in or around the flooded area. If flooding is severe, you may need assistance from an electrician. Never enter an area with standing water if there is still electricity running through it.
  • Act Fast: Remove flood water from your home as soon as possible using shop vacs, buckets, mops, sponges, etc. If necessary, use a wet/dry vacuum cleaner or rent a submersible pump from a hardware store or rental company. Get rid of as much water as you can before it has time to soak into carpeting and furniture.
  • Air Dry: Remove all damp items like books, curtains and clothing that were affected by the flood waters and put them outside in a dry space until they can be cleaned or replaced.
  • Porous Materials: Most porous materials like wood furniture, carpets and mattresses will likely need replacement due to long-term exposure to moisture in the air after the flood waters have receded.
  • Non-Porous Materials: Non-porous items such as metal furniture may be able to be cleaned with soap and warm water; however, many times these items must be professionally cleaned because of bacteria growth caused by prolonged exposure to moisture.
  • Electronics: Electronics should be taken for professional repair since attempts at cleaning them on your own could cause further damage (or potentially harm you).
  • Get Help: In most cases, support from a professional water removal and restoration company is required. Do not attempt to remove water and repair any severe damage if you do not feel safe or comfortable doing so. Seek professional help when necessary.

When faced with a flooded home, it’s important not just to act quickly but also wisely when it comes time for clean-up and repair work following a flood event. Taking steps such as calling a professional contractor specializing in water removal services right away will help ensure that your home gets back into great shape as soon as possible (without suffering further damages due to standing waters inside your property or hidden pockets of moisture lurking behind walls or under floors). Ultimately, these steps will save you both time and money in the long run!

When there is a large amount of standing water, a bucket can scoop up as much water as possible. This water must be discarded far enough, so it does not make its way back inside. If the pipes in the building are not affected, the water can be poured into a sink or tub from where it drains away. When water can not be scooped up any longer, mopping the area will help to remove residual water.

2. Improve airflow

Ventilating the area or ensuring adequate airflow will help remove moisture. Windows and doors can be left open when the climate is hot and dry to provide air circulation. Depending on the season, heating or air conditioning can be kept on. Plugging in fans to allow more airflow in water-damaged areas will help faster drying and reduce the risk of mold growth.

3. Wet and dry vacuum

Using a wet vacuum helps to suck up water from carpets, cushions, rugs, and floors. A wet and dry shop vacuum can be rented for this. Areas that still have water can be vacuumed, and the wet vacuum must be emptied away from the house or in a drain.

4. Soaking up water

Sometimes there may be water in areas that a vacuum or mop cannot access. Laying dry towels in such areas will absorb a good amount of water. The wet towels can then be wrung out, dried, and reused to mop up the water. The advantage of towels is that they can reach areas under furniture or in corners where vacuums and mops cannot reach. Depending on the dimensions of the affected area, different sizes of towels may be used to remove water.

5. Dehumidifiers

A dehumidifier can help to absorb moisture in walls or flooring. Setting it to its highest functioning capacity will ensure the dehumidifier is effective.

Property owners attempting to clean up water must ensure that they never plug in any electrical appliance or equipment when standing in water or if the water damage may affect the device or electrical outlet. Also, protective measures are required if the water is contaminated or there is mold. Water damage restoration professionals are trained and equipped to handle any type of water damage.

Does drywall need to be replaced after flood damage?

11/16/2022 (Permalink)

Blog Summary: Whether drywall needs to be replaced after flood damage is explained in this article by SERVPRO® of Central & West Plano

Homes can become flooded for a variety of reasons. Flood damage is usually caused by water from natural disasters (hurricanes, heavy rains), including flash floods, sump failures, roof leaks, and more.

Water damage refers to damage caused by water ingress that allows the destruction of materials and objects. Destructive processes with water include wood rot, metal rust, and mold growth. Drywall is a building material that is susceptible to water damage during flooding. It is made of gypsum board. Drywall is a building material used in residential and commercial properties. The material is strong enough when dry but is porous and will absorb water if exposed for long periods of time. Drywall is most susceptible to water damage when exposed to water for an extended period. In this article, SERVPRO of Central & West Plano explains why drywall should be replaced after flood damage.

SERVPRO of Central & West Plano is a locally owned and operated company that provides water damage restoration in Hunters Glen, TX, and surrounding areas. Their highly trained water damage restoration technicians use the latest specialized equipment for water extraction and to dry buildings affected by water or flood damage. SERVPRO of Central & West Plano ensures rapid restoration of residential and commercial properties to a preloss condition.

Signs of water damage to drywall

  • Soggy or damp areas that may be moist or soft to touch
  • Bulging or sagging of drywall
  • Loose bolts and screws around drywall
  • Brown or dark discoloration or marks along where water leaked on the drywall
  • Peeling or bubbled appearance of wallpaper
  • Blistering or softening and chipped paint
  • Moldy spots or patches
  • The musty odor from trapped water in drywall

When should drywall be replaced?

The drywall should be thoroughly inspected if flooding or water damage is suspected.

Drywall is slightly wet

If the drywall is just slightly damp, it may not need to be replaced. However, quick drying of drywall is essential. Pointing a fan at the drywall will help dry it after turning off the water source. Opening a window will allow air to circulate and help dry the drywall.

Wet or soggy drywall

Drywall is porous and therefore absorbs water. The longer it is exposed to water, the more water it will absorb. If the drywall exposed to flooding begins to sag or buckle, it means that it has absorbed a lot of water. Deformed drywall should be removed as it may collapse and is a safety risk. Wet drywall is also an ideal environment for mold growth. Water damage restoration experts recommend that wet drywall be replaced within 48 hours, as mold growth is likely on surfaces left wet for more than 24 to 48 hours.

Mold growth

Water damage can seem insignificant, especially if the drywall doesn't look wet. However, mold growth can occur later. There may be tiny black spots or larger patches on the surface, or a musty odor. If mold growth is suspected, hiring a water damage remediation professional is the best way to remove and replace the drywall. The personnel is trained to work in harmful surroundings and have protective equipment. Technicians at SERVPRO of Central & West Plano use specialized equipment to speed up water damage restoration without any compromise on safety and effectiveness.

For some people with time and DIY skills, replacing drywall may be easy. However, when water damage is due to flooding and the water causing it is considered contaminated, or if there is a possibility of mold growth, a water damage restoration company should be called. Trained technicians can remove and replace drywall without compromising safety. They ensure that the building structure is secure. SERVPRO of Central & West Plano is a trusted leader in the water damage restoration industry. Their expert team provides tailor-made solutions that follow the industry's best standards for commercial and residential water damage restoration. Whatever the size of the disaster and irrespective of the time of emergency, property owners who need water damage restoration in Hunters Glen, TX, can reach SERVPRO of Central & West Plano on the number (945) 348-5804.

Water Damage Mitigation Vs. Water Damage Restoration

10/22/2022 (Permalink)

Blog Summary: The difference between water damage mitigation and water damage restoration is explained by SERVPRO of Central & West Plano in this article.

Water damage can occur due to severe storms, leaking pipes, faulty appliances, and clogged drains. Most households and businesses will likely experience water damage due to multiple causes. When the damage is minimal, the property owners may handle it. However, a professional water damage restoration service may be needed for more severe water damage.

It is helpful if property owners have a basic understanding of the water damage restoration process. Several terms pop up when talking about water damage restoration. Some of them include water damage repair, water damage restoration, water removal, water remediation, and mitigation. Though these terms are often used interchangeably, sometimes there are minor differences between them. In this article, SERVPRO® of Central & West Plano explains how water damage mitigation differs from water damage restoration. SERVPRO of Central & West Plano is a company that offers Fire and Water - Cleanup and Restoration in Hunters Glen, TX, and surrounding areas. This locally owned company is mindful that homes mean much more than buildings; they are places filled with memories and emotions. Personnel at SERVPRO of Central & West Plano understand this and the importance of swift and thorough water damage restoration in limiting the risks of damage worsening.

When dealing with water damage, two of the most common terms encountered are water damage restoration and water mitigation. Many assume these two terms mean the same thing. However, there is a slight difference between these two terms, and this difference impacts the financial aspects. It would be helpful to know of this difference. Some insurance companies cover only water mitigation costs, while others only cover water damage restoration costs.

Water mitigation

Water mitigation is the process of minimizing property loss caused by water damage. The process includes several steps like cleaning, disinfecting, and drying. The cause of water damage is identified, and the source of water is stopped, if possible. Depending on the type of water (white, grey, or black), the category of water damage is ascertained. An action plan is implemented to remove standing water and residual moisture that will worsen the water damage if left unattended. The process of water mitigation can include the following steps:

  • Removing damaged materials (like drywall and flooring) and furniture
  • Cleaning and disinfecting salvageable objects and materials
  • Using commercial-grade equipment to remove water and dry the area
  • Boarding up windows, using tarps over damaged roofs, and other measures to protect the home from water or other natural elements are all part of water damage mitigation. For instance, a damaged roof can cause water to enter and cause further damage, so using a tarp can help. Removing debris like broken branches and loosened shingles, plugging holes, and reinforcing weak structures to prevent them from collapsing, are all part of the water mitigation process.

Expenses will be higher if there is a delay in water mitigation. This is because more water damage happens without mitigation, and more objects will need repair or replacement. Water damage mitigation aims to reduce the losses and repairs required to return a property to a preloss state.

Water damage restoration

Unlike water mitigation, water damage restoration focuses on repairing and restoring the water damage in a home or property. The process includes the repairs and building work done after water damage that restore the property to a preloss condition. Water damage restoration is done after water mitigation. This process intends a complete recovery from all water damage. SERVPRO of Central & West Plano has highly trained water damage restoration technicians who are IICRC-certified. They use state-of-the-art technology and specialized equipment for the water damage restoration process. The following may be part of the process, depending on the extent of water damage.

  • Replacing damaged flooring and walls
  •  Replacing or repairing damaged roofs and ceilings
  • Cleaning and sanitizing carpets, rugs, and upholstery that are not irreversibly damaged
  • Cleaning and disinfecting the area
  • Taking steps to reduce the risk of mold growth

To summarize, water mitigation's primary purpose is to limit water damage. All actions are to keep property and objects within it away from harm by exposure to water. Water mitigation is carried out first, and delays or failures in the process can worsen the water damage.

After water mitigation, water damage restoration begins. It aims to repair the water damage that has been sustained already. Delaying water damage restoration can lead to secondary water damage.

After any type of water damage, calling a reputable water damage restoration company without delay is essential. Professionals provide water mitigation and water damage restoration, and though technically, these services can be performed separately, they are all usually provided for the best outcome. For water damage restoration in Hunters Glen, TX, SERVPRO® of Central & West Plano can be approached. What Is Water Damage Restoration?

10/9/2022 (Permalink)

Blog Summary: SERVPRO of Central and West Plano explains what water damage restoration is in this article.

Incidences of water damage are rising. Dealing with water damage is costly, and it is estimated that around 1 in 50 homeowners claim insurance for water damage or freezing annually. According to the Insurance Information Institute, this makes up 29% of all homeowners insurance claims.

Leaving aside the financial aspects, water damage is a severely distressing occurrence for both homeowners and business owners. A professional water damage restoration company is required, especially for severe water damage. Homeowners needing water damage restoration in Hunters Glen, TX, can rely on SERVPRO® of Central and West Plano. As the number one choice for cleanup and restoration services, these professionals also strive to understand the needs of individual customers and strive for customer satisfaction in all work they do. In this article, SERVPRO of Central and West Plano explains what water damage restoration entails.

Water damage restoration is a term used for all the measures and activities carried out to restore a property that has sustained water damage. The aim is to restore the property to a preloss state, as far as possible. The process also helps to limit further destruction of property, the resulting harm, and the costs incurred.

The process of water damage restoration

Water damage can affect the structure of the building, building materials, personal belongings, and furnishing like carpets, etc. Depending on the severity and class of water damage and what was affected, the specific process of water damage restoration can vary. But the basic steps are generally the same for water damage restoration. These steps are:

1. Emergency action

Immediately after water damage, the priority is to make sure the family members and occupants of the affected building are safe. If needed, provisions may need to be made for medical care or alternate living arrangements. If the situation demands, an emergency call can be made to authorities and a professional water damage restoration company. This is important when the water damage has affected a large part of the building, is severe, or is caused by contaminated water. SERVPRO of Central and West Plano can be contacted by phone for emergencies 24/7 and can reach the affected area in 60 minutes. The company has IICRC-certified technicians equipped to handle large or small water emergencies. SERVPRO of Central and West Plano understands that delay in starting the water mitigation process can cause further water damage and worsen the existing damage.

2. Inspection and assessment of damage

The area is inspected and the source of water is immediately stopped. The type of water causing damage is assessed and based on the level of contamination it is categorized. Any safety issues must be identified and a prioritized action plan will be formed and implemented. Depending onthe affected area, the kind of materials affected, and the extent of damage the water damage restoration technicians can design a strategy for water damage mitigation and repair. The contents of the building like furniture may be moved or blocked to limit the extent of water damage.

3. Water removal

This step is to remove standing water as quickly as possible. The absorbed water is also extracted as much as possible. This step is very important as standing water can affect health and safety. Water removal also helps make drying the affected property easier. Water damage restoration experts will have moisture detectors and hygrometers to assess the extent of moisture present. They are also trained and skilled in using specialized equipment like submersible and gas-powered pumps, and truck-mounted and portable extraction units that aid quick and thorough water removal.

4. Drying and dehumidification

After water removal, technicians begin to dry the area, which is essential as there can be retained moisture that can cause material deterioration and mold growth. Depending on the measurement of the area affected, room temperature, and humidity levels the water damage restoration technicians determine the equipment to be used. Industrial grade dehumidifiers and high-speed air movers may be used as required. The drying and dehumidification will help reduce the risk of secondary water damage.

5. Cleaning and sanitizing

Once the affected building is dry, the area must be cleaned. Walls, floors, furniture, and other items should be cleaned and sanitized. Depending on the affected objects, dry cleaning, wet cleaning, spray and wipe cleaning, foam cleaning, abrasive cleaning, or immersion cleaning may be used. Sanitizing is important especially if category 2 or category 3 water damage was sustained. Professionals like SERVPRO of Central and West Plano offer specialized services to restore contents damaged by water.  Deodorization can also be done to remove offensive odors using air scrubbers or fogging equipment. Damaged materials and objects are removed and disposed of at this stage.

6. Restoration

Severely damaged property may need some amount of reconstruction. Though immediately after water damage, emergency services like board-up and tarp-up may be done, in the end, repair and replacement services are carried out. This step is what restores a home to a state that is as close to the preloss condition as possible. This can be anything like drywall removal and installation, painting, or carpet repair.

Water damage can be devastating for homes and businesses, if severe. It is an overwhelming experience for all involved. SERVPRO of Central and West Plano understands this and the team always makes an effort to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible. Water Damage Drying Process

Drying and Dehumidification

Once the excess water has been removed, the floors and walls may appear dry, but a quick inspection will reveal they are wet to the touch. Nearly all building materials, like wood, drywall, and flooring materials, are porous and therefore retain water. This retained water can cause the materials to break down, warp, or cause mold damage.

Drying / Dehumidification

Our Professionals will use room measurements, temperature, and relative humidity to determine the optimal number of air movers and dehumidifiers to dry your home or business. We’ll carefully monitor the progress using moisture meters until the materials return to acceptable drying goals.

  • Use Dehumidification Equipment
  • Use Monitoring Equipment to Track Progress

Monitor Floor and Walls

We check the moisture levels to monitor the drying process.

The Process of Turning Around Water Damage in Plano Properties

Many people think that cleaning up after water damage means mopping or throwing down towels on the floor and setting up a fan or two to dry any water the towels or mop did not pick up. One of the main factors affecting the restoration of a structure and contents is the amount of time it was saturated before cleanup efforts began and another important factor is if any residual moisture remains.

Plano Water Damage Comes in Many Forms

When there is a hot water tank failure, pipe burst or even a leak in a roof allowing rain into the home, the water you can see may be all you assume needs to be cleaned up. The problem can go much deeper. In the case of moisture behind drywall, vapor barriers can hold moisture and become a perfect host for mold growth. When flooring is drenched, the subflooring underneath can retain moisture and cause a host of issues. In almost every circumstance, having your property cleaned professionally by our team at SERVPRO of Plano can help you avoid potential repairs or replacement cost from secondary damages.

Our Plano technicians use several state-of-the-art moisture detection devices including moisture sensors that can show if there is any residual moisture in baseboards, walls or carpeting. Moisture meters are a valuable tool used to determine how much moisture in various materials and how we define when an affected area is truly dry. We can use devices with sharp probes or flat surfaces, depending on the material being checked. Thermal imaging can be used in cases where probes cannot adequately measure the moisture within structures. Color imaging on a small visual screen indicates temperature variations, a possible indication of dampness or water. Thermohygrometers measure humidity, vapor pressure and dew point. This measurement is essential for determining the baseline indoor humidity in unaffected areas of the property so drying goals can be established.

Quick Water Extraction is a Key Element

Sometimes when our water damage restoration team arrives at a local site, often the property owner has done some water clean up before our arrival. What they often find shocking is the amount of water still left in carpeting, furnishings, walls, and flooring. For fast extraction, we utilize the power behind both portable and truck mounted extractors. Weighted extractors are ideal for pushing water out of carpeting and upholstery. For large amounts of water, we can pull it out of a home or business quickly using our truck-mounted pumps. Bottom line: the more thoroughly water is extracted, the faster the home or business dries.

How SERVPRO Dries Properties So Quickly

Our technicians have an array of tools that are often used in tandem to reduce moisture quickly in a property. Our Plano technicians are certified in the science of Psychometry, the study of air and control of moisture content and its effects. This training enables the technicians to choose the right configuration of high-grade air movers, high-velocity axial fans, industrial heaters and dehumidifiers on a case by case basis for the best results. The air movers are vital to the drying process as they are positioned to draw moisture air to the surface and the dehumidifiers eliminate the moisture as it rises. Our goal is to work quickly and cause as little disruption to your home or business as possible during our restoration efforts. Whenever possible, we dry furnishings in place, setting the legs on foil and raised on blocks of wood or dense foam.

Carpeting is not automatically a loss if it has absorbed water. With our extraction methods, we can pull much of the water from within the padding. Using a method such as "floating" where strong currents of air are directed under the carpeting, it can often be dried in place and saved. In the cases where carpeting cannot be dried in place but appears to be restorable, our technicians can suggest removal to a drying facility or to another location at the property. Padding is often discarded, not worth the effort nor the expense to salvage.

In-Plant Restoration Services

There are times contents cannot be dried on-site. In those cases, with the permission of the property owner, our technicians pack and more items for in-plant servicing. In the case of upholstered furnishings or carpeting, both can often be saved through our restoration methods. Our goal is always to restore rather than replace whenever possible, and our specialized restoration techniques for books and papers use the same recovery methods as the Library of Congress for historical documents. Lyophilization has saved many an important document or manuscript.

Leaving No Reminders of Water Damage Behind

Although drying the structure and contents eliminates a good deal of the unpleasant odor, there are additional steps taken to ensure there are no traces left either visually or offend the olfactory sense. Thoroughly hand-cleaning using our proprietary cleaning solutions eliminate bacteria and fungus along with leaving a pleasant, clean scent. In many cases, this is enough to take care of any residual odors left behind.

When the Water Odor is Bigger Than Hand Cleaning Can Handle

While our cleaning methods may banish any lingering odors. Sometimes, the odor left behind requires robust methods to eliminate it. When the scent additive in cleaning products is not enough, another masking agent that works often comes in the form of time-release gel beads. For strong odors, our Odor Control Technicians utilize ultra-low volume fogging. This method uses a solvent that is released as fog, and it changes the makeup of the odor at the molecular level neutralizing it. We can also utilize mechanical means of odor control by stationing HEPA filtered air scrubbers and hydroxyl generators.

Avoiding Mold after Water Damage

Mold is a real concern and our approach to Water removal and cleanup addresses making the structure and contents non-supportive for mold growth at every step. Along with lowering moisture, our powerful antifungal cleaning agents leave surfaces unfriendly for mold growth. A common home remedy that gets repeated often is to spray bleach on areas after cleaning. That never addresses mold spores and colonies that have extensive hyphae, root-like structures embedded in porous materials like drywall. SERVPRO of Plano provides the correct remedies to inhibit mold proliferation.

Do not take on the task of water removal from your home on your own. Whether it is a little or a lot of water causing you stress, contact SERVPRO of Plano, and let our technicians professionally clean and restore your property to its pre loss condition.

Winter weather

1/21/2020 (Permalink)

Winter weather can bring about more issues than just slippery roads and a sidewalk to shovel.

If you live where temperatures sink below freezing, you are also at risk for frozen pipes, which can create a major disaster to your home or property.

Frozen pipes occur when exposed to cold weather, such as those outside your house, or in areas such as basements, attics, garages, or kitchen cabinets. A frozen pipe can burst at the point where the ice blockage inside the pipe is located, but typically the rupture is caused from the backflow of pressure between the water source and the blockage.

If winter weather causes water damage to your home or property, SERVPRO of Plano are only a call away! (972)403-9004.

Frozen Pipes

1/22/2019 (Permalink)

Winter weather can bring about more issues than just slippery roads and a sidewalk to shovel.

If you live where temperatures sink below freezing level, you are also at risk for frozen pipes and ice dams, which can create a major disaster at your home or property.

FROZEN PIPES Frozen pipes are often those exposed to the cold weather, such as those outside your house, or in cold areas such as basements, attics, garages or kitchen cabinets.

A frozen pipe can burst at the point where the ice blockage inside the pipe is located, but typically the rupture is caused by the backflow pressure between the water source and the blockage.

A burst pipe can cause considerable damage to your property if not addressed quickly.

To prevent pipes from freezing, here are a few steps you can take, according to The American Red Cross. Be sure to completely drain water from swimming pool and sprinkler lines, as well as outside hoses.

Open kitchen cabinets to let warm air circulate near the plumbing. When the weather is extremely cold, let water drip from faucets that may come from exposed pipes.

Keep your heat set to the same temperature both day and night.

ICE DAMS Ice dams can be a little-known,but major problem during the snowy season. They form when heated air melts roof snow downward into water dammed behind still-frozen ice. When the trapped water cannot safely flow or run into the gutter system, it can backflow under the roof ’s shingles and into the structure’s interior areas, as well as causing gutters and shingles to move or fall.

Icicles can be an initial sign of an ice dam, according to Travelers.com. Tospot ice dams inside, “check for water stains or moisture in your attic or along the ceiling of exterior walls of your house. Water stains or moisture maybe an indication that an ice dam has formed and water has penetrated the roof membrane.

Removing an ice dam as soon as it is found is vital to helping prevent damage to your property and can be done using heated cables, a roof shovel or calcium chloride ice melter.

If winter weather causes water damage to your property, Contact SERVPRO of Plano we are only a call away, 24/7, ready to restore to pre loss condition.

It's the WATER that you don't see that will cause the most damage

7/30/2018 (Permalink)

Even small water damages have the potential to cause serious structural and indoor air quality issues over time.

The key to avoiding costly future restoration is to handle every water problem as a real threat to your property.

SERVPRO of Plano Professionals have the equipment, training and experience to find and dry unseen water before secondary damages occur.

The proper equipment makes a measurable difference in reducing the damage expense during a fire or water loss.

When time matters, technology and equipment must be counted onto perform.

SERVPRO of Plano Professional Technicians will answer your call with fast action and a full arsenal of drying equipment. Here area few of the tools used by your local SERVPRO of Plano.

Moisture Sensors are used to detect moisture in carpets, baseboards and walls.

Moisture Meters are used to determine the actual moisture content of various materials.

The moisture tester provides accurate readings, allowing SERVPRO of Plano Professionals to monitor the drying process.

Thermohygrometers measure temperature and relative humidity.

When armed with this information, SERVPRO of Plano Professionals can calculate and create an environment most conducive to drying. When facing a contaminated water loss, it is not only important to dry the structure, but the structure must also be disinfected and often deodorized.

Ultra Low-Volume (ULV) Foggers(pictured below) will atomize liquid deodoraizing agents, producing a finemist that can easily penetrate the sitewhere odor-causing residues may accumulate. This device can also be used to inject fungicides and disinfectants into wall cavities and other hard-to-reach areas.

Thermal Foggers dispense solvent based products by creating a dense fog. The fog consists of tiny particles of deodorant solution that attach to and neutralize odor causing particles to deodorize structures, garments, automobiles and other places where cleaning cannot reach.

The science of drying after a water damage to your property

2/26/2018 (Permalink)

Drying a property after a water damage needs to be done correctly and quickly.

SERVPRO of Plano technicians are trained in the science of psychrometrics and follow strict industry-approved standards ( IICRC ) to ensure secondary water damage is minimized.

Psychrometry is the calculation of relative humidity and water-vapor pressures from temperature and barometric pressure. It’s also called hygrometry.

If your home or business has a water damage, we will:

  • Inspect your property to detect any wet materials.
  • Measure the amount of moisture in the wet materials.
  • Set up professional drying equipment.
  • Monitor wet materials every day to ensure they dry properly and quickly.

Why Drying Quickly is Important

Materials can often dry on their own if the moisture if the moisture in the wet material moves to drier air (assuming there is drier air).  The problem with letting nature take care of drying your property is that it simply takes too long and the chances for secondary damage become high.  This is the reason we use professional drying equipment, such as air movers, dehumidifiers, and other specialty equipment, to help speed up nature.  Our technicians know the right amount of equipment and its most efficient placement to dry your structure.

How We Monitor the Drying Process

We will visit your property every day to check the drying status of all wet components.  We use a start-of-the-art monitoring equipment and a proven scientific process to help the speed of drying.  As areas become dry, we remove equipment.

DryBook

We document all drying data into a proprietary program called DryBook.  This is how we:

  • Manage industry drying requirements.
  • Provide real-time documentation of the drying process.  This documentation is given to your insurance provider, should you file a claim.
  • Validate services are executed to standard.
  • Report to all stakeholders involved.
  • Allow real-time updates.

Our technicians have the training and equipment to make it “Like it never even happened.”  We’re ready to help.

Tips to Remove Sewage Backup After Heavy Rains

Tips To Safely Remove Sewage Backup After Heavy Rains to your Property.

Sewer backup in Plano, TX following heavy rains is not uncommon.

This can result in just a few inches of standing water or several feet of rain water accumulating.

Knowing how to remove this water safely and properly is important.

You might also consider putting preventative measures in place to reduce the risk of this situation in the future.

Taking Preventative Measures

If you have experienced a sewer backup once, you know it is definitely something that you do not want to happen again. There are a few ways to reduce your risk:

• Install backwater valves on any basement plumbing fixtures
• On the house trap, ensure that all sewer trap plugs fit properly and tightly

Removing Sewage Backup

First and foremost, you want to shut off the electricity and gas in the space that was affected by the backup. Then, the most important part is to get all of the standing water out as quickly as possible. A sump or trash pump might be beneficial for this step in the process. Once removed, start by opening windows and doors and running fans to air out the space. Do not walk around with no shoes on your feet.

Any items touched by the backup or black water should be thrown away due to the risk of them being contaminated. Then, start cleaning. Use appropriate cleaning solutions, such as bleach and other disinfectants. Go over all surfaces multiple times, using clean sponges or cloths so that you can avoid cross-contaminating cleaned areas. Once clean, make sure to use another fresh towel to thoroughly dry the area. As you are doing this, be careful not to track sewage or other debris to already-cleaned areas.

It is important that sewer backup is promptly removed to avoid additional problems. Once it is gone and restoration is completed, consider instituting preventative measures to help to decrease the chances of your home experiencing this issue in the future.

Household Appliances Cause Most Water Damage

2/6/2018 (Permalink)

Many household appliances can fail and cause a major WATER DAMAGE to your home. When this happens to your property, please contact SERVPRO of Plano at 972-403-9004.

Steps to removing water and drying your home after a failed appliance causes a flood

Most flooding problems in homes come from the inside, rather than from a rising creek or river. In many of these cases, the problem results from a failed dishwasher or a split intake hose for a clothes washer.

Appliance flood damage in a Plano home sounds simple, but the truth is very different. A failure of either of these machines can drop over five gallons of water on the floor every hour. SERVPRO knows that if this happens in the morning after everyone leaves for work, that means an entire, three-bedroom room can be under an inch of water before the homeowner or renter walks in to find a disaster.

The only advantage to dealing with flooding from such an inside source is that it is clean water. There is no contamination to have to worry about, so there is no need for special protective gear and since cleaning the surfaces is not required, the overall time necessary for the job is far less as well.

The first step we take is to stop the flow of water. If a resident has not turned off the water main, we do it immediately after arriving on the property.

Next, we get to work removing standing water. For any amount over an inch, we start with commercial grade water pumps. These machines can empty out an average home in an afternoon, allowing us to bring in more equipment and inspect for damage to floors, carpets, and walls. If the power is out, we bring in our generators for uninterrupted electrical support.

If there is no permanent damage, we draw out remaining water trapped on carpets and floors. Technicians use extraction wands which are designed to bring out the water without harming wood surfaces or damaging the nap of the rug. This part of the job is more time-consuming and can take up to a full day or more.

With the water removed, we now lower the moisture levels in the surrounding air. To do so, we use dehumidifiers to draw moisture out of the air. Each device can remove over twenty gallons every day depending on the humidity and size of the dehumidifier we use. We perform this task to prevent the possibility of rot or mold growth in the walls and floors.

Drying out your home is not an easy process, but the right restoration company can do it quickly and safely. SERVPRO of Plano has decades of experience helping our neighbors put their homes back together after a flood. If you need our help, call today at (972)-403-9004.

Do you know how old your Water Heater is ?

1/9/2018 (Permalink)

Water Heaters Age

The majority of WATER DAMAGES SERVPRO of Plano sees are due to broken WATER HEATERS.

If you have a gas water heater, you may have noticed a popping sound when the burner ignites. However, regardless of the fuel source, sediment build-up is a problem for both electric and gas water heaters.

Over time, the sediment build-up will break down the interior of the tank, and it may even clog the drain valve.

The older the water heater, the more likely it is to break down. As a general rule, a tank type water heater will last, on average 8 to 12 years.

With proper maintenance and a little luck, you may be able to nearly double the lifespan of your water heater. But sometimes even with the best care, a water heater will need to be replaced after only a few years. However, if your water heater is pushing the 10-year point, there’s a good chance it’s time to replace the unit.

If you have a Water Heater break and it does FLOOD your HOME or BUSINESS call SERVPRO of Plano: (972)-403-9004

Water Damage F.A.Q.

11/30/2017 (Permalink)

  • Should I file an Insurance Claim?
    • Maybe, it all depends on your deductible and what our services are going to cost. We recommend having your deductible information on hand and reaching out to your local insurance agent to discuss your policy. We can give you an estimate before beginning work to help you make the right decision on whether or not your loss is claim worthy. If you do file an insurance claim SERVPRO is on vendor lists for a wide variety of insurance companies and works directly with them to make it easier for you.
  • What can I do before you get here?
    • A few things we recommend; try and pick up small belongings off the floor, if you’re dealing with carpet you can place pieces of tin foil under the legs of your furniture to prevent furniture staining, also it is crucial that you make sure the water is turned off or the leak is repaired before we arrive onsite.
  • What are some safety concerns I should be aware of?
    • Water damages can definitely be dangerous in your home if the right steps aren’t taken. If water came from above we suggest you do not use lighting fixtures or ceiling fans until the loss has been assessed and there are no structural support concerns. Do not plug anything into outlets that may have been submerged in water on the floor or low on a wall. If dealing with flood waters or sewage losses try not to walk in the water it could pose serious health risks.
  • What will you do when you get here?
    • First we will assess the loss area to confirm the cause of loss and see where the water has traveled using moisture meters and sensors. Next we might preform extraction on standing water where we could move and protect furniture and remove area rugs from the loss area. Then there is the potential for demolition services such as; lifting or removing carpet and pad, removing damaged or swollen baseboards, removing drywall and insulation, or removing other non-salvageable flooring materials. Finally we will setup drying equipment, air movers and dehumidifiers, to create a balanced drying environment; this equipment usually runs for 3-5 days for residences and 5-10 days for commercial properties.
  • How much will your services cost?
    • It all depends on what we find when we assess the loss site. We cannot accurately give an estimate without seeing the damage. We do preform free estimates Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm. If needing an estimate on the weekend or not in that time frame the cost is $175. Our services could range from a couple hundred dollars to thousands of dollars depending on the size of damage and materials affected.
